Sometimes when one is struck with the perfectly stocked fridge and a brilliant idea, dishes of pure magic are created. This is certainly the case with this triple-meat breakfast burger. It consists of a prosciutto-wrapped beef patty topped with bacon and an egg on a sesame seed bun. (I’ll give you a couple of minutes to just let that sink in.)
Ingredients:
- 2 strips bacon
- 1 beef burger patty
- 2 slices prosciutto
- 1 egg
- 1 sesame seed burger bun
- Lettuce, tomato, and any other toppings you desire
The picture above is what I call the “action shot”—I love how it captures the yolk mid drop.
Procedure:
- It all starts with the bacon (of course). Cook the bacon in a nonstick skillet until the fat has rendered and it is nice and crisp. Set the bacon aside, reserving the rendered fat in the pan.
- Wrap the beef patty in the prosciutto. Cook in the reserved bacon fat over medium heat until crisp, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Reserve. (I started with a leftover, already cooked beef patty. You would likely need to cook it longer if you started with raw meat.)
- Lastly, you’re also going to the cook the egg in that very same bacon fat to the desired doneness. I, of course, vote sunny-side up, but I’ll leave that decision to you.
- Assemble the cooked ingredients on the burger bun along with the lettuce, tomato, and whatever other toppings you like (cheese, perhaps?).
Although I call this a “breakfast burger,” in reality I’d be perfectly content eating this for brunch, lunch, dinner, or as a snack too. You’ll definitely want to add this to your list of “things to cook soon.” And now, I leave you with one last #eggporn photo:
